OMG WOW AND THANKS

Author OMG WOW AND THANKS
Muff Wiggler
Ok I am exhausted but I gotta share these crap cellphone pics.

Today is a serious landmark day in my life. Something I've been dreaming of, planning and working towards for the better part of ten years has been completed.

Lots more text coming later, along with a HUGE list of people I need to thank for making this possible (not least Grant Richter, Cary Grace and Matthew Goike), and of course better pics and sounds.

But for now some quick and dirty photos to get the blood pumping.

I have no words to express the awe and gratitude I'm feeling at the moment.

Be back later.

OMG.

edit - Folks have been asking about the empty middle case. I'm not quite yet ready to install it yet, but this is what it will hold....

plord
So what goes in the empty cabinet? Row of Euro-Wiard? More Frac? Milton?
Muff Wiggler
Hopefully I'll be getting that install done in the next day or two (I'm behind on SO many things right now, in specific getting OpenTapes setup for a ton of folks is weighing on my mind....)

but that row is for the frac I couldn't bear to sell, which complements the Wiard system:

1x Blacet Midiverter
2x Blacet MiniWave (one with Hylander Expander)
2x Zeroscillator
1x Saw Animator

excellent Mike!

Why not move the front panels forward so there is no gap, leave the gap at the back so you have space for your leads to plug in.
bwhittington
Goodness, that is a beauty. Very well conceived. May it bring you a world of cool sounds. Rockin' Banana!
goiks
nice idea amnesia - don't worry, the gap will be addressed!

Congrats Mike.

You deserve a world class rig for putting up with all of our hooliganism. ;-)

Amazing synth.

I also have a 300 and an Evenfall. I always wished the Evenfall had a blue faceplate to match the 300.

That is a gorgeous case Mike! applause

Congrats on completing your amazing Wiard setup.
mattysal
Damn fine looking!!! thumbs up
kuxaan-sum
SWEET!
Congrats...absolutely beautiful.

Can't wait to hear.

That looks (and i'm sure sounds) beautiful! Love the vibe of a complete system like this.

Muff - take a much needed break, have a seat and begin your exploration of the endless possibilities contained within this machine! screaming goo yo

Absolutely Gorgeous w00t
Muff Wiggler
thanks everyone - and while I still gotta write my huge thank-you post, a massive shout out to mattysal as well who drove to Vermont (from Montreal) to pick this up for me, then held it at his place for about two weeks before I could come and get it! This whole synth represents such a community effort as you'll see when I get the time to sit down and write the whole story for you all.

Also I added this pic to the initial post in this thread since people were asking, but I'll post it here as well for those who have already read the first page in the thread:

Folks have been asking about the empty middle case. I'm not quite yet ready to install it yet, but this is what it will hold....

Super congratz, Mike! You certainly deserve a primo system for all you've done for the modular synth community!

Very awesome... a little group-porn-pic with your Bug-spaceship and you might have the most awesome modular picture ever to show.

Now let´s hear it also... please?

absolutely beautiful!

will you evenfall owners tell us what is so special about those, and why you hold on to them? they seem pretty rare these days.
BugBrand
Lovely!

We all know that [[song title]]:::

Ripping wonder song (not synth at all, but hey...)
revmutt
Looks great Mike.

You are going to have to add the unique Euro modules that Grants designed because the Anti Oscillator is so necessary.
slow_riot
beautiful. Hope you get some chances to spend time with it. You deserve it.

What I like most about mine is that it is extremely thin. With the back case taken off, there is only a PCB parallel to the panel and the rest is totally empty.

hats off sir, what a majestic looking system!!

Thanks Cary. Didn't Grant have a hand in the design too? How does it sound?

Yes, Grant did help with the design on the Evenfall. It sounds quite good! The layout/functionality is somewhat Odyssey-like. Though the tiny plastic pot shafts let it down, it is playable if you put your own reasonably-sized knobs on. I had to remove the MIDI interface due to interference though.

I'm sure there are better/more comprehensive examples out there, but the filtered drone part on this is the Mini Modular (the rest is VCS3 and Synthi):

Thanks Cary, that sounds great! Downloading the FLAC now. Was it also designed by the Telomere dude (Chris MacDonald)? His label is also called Evenfall, and I love his music.

PS: Checking your website and glad to see you are in favour of dynamic range!

And if I ever buy into another modular system it is likely to be Wiard 300!

Great piece of music Cary and Grant! thumbs up

Wow, beautiful system Mike! Lots of fun is going to be had!

Yes, as I understand it, Chris MacDonald took the project to Grant to finish the design.

beautiful. SlayerBadger!
that case is so luxurious... it reminds me of James Bond for some reason,
like Sean Connery should be rocking that thing. or maybe Goldfinger...

Resurrecting an old thread but I wanted to add just how visually beautiful the modules and the case look. It looks like a beautiful instantiation of technology as art, not utilitarian but an artistic endeavor in and of itself. This system is a one-of-a-kind instrument.

Mike, how does it sound to you when you use it? It looks fairly comprehensive, do you add in external modulation or sound sources? Any advice for someone starting out with a 6 module Wiard system in 2016?

Best,

Justin

He didn't use it, he sold it.

The system now resides in Darkest Avalon where I had to rebuild the power and grounding to make it conform to safety standards and to be usable with other instruments.

Don't waste money on a custom case before you know what you are doing and what you really need. You will change your mind, the only variable is how soon. Often this is before the case is even finished.
jdkee
Wow, that is a visually beautiful system. I imagine it sounds amazing. Enjoy.

I agree about the custom cases. I have about a dozen modules now and have worked up some handmade wooden rack ears just to hold the racked modules. My woodworking skills are nowhere near Goikes skills but they work.

Graham, would you make a switchmix/modmix module in 6U format? I'm not sure if there is sufficient demand to justify tooling in the 6U format as opposed to euro. Just curious.

Alternatively, pick a custom case as early as possible, so you get a small case, so you fill it quickly, so you don't waste time researching new modules, and instead get on with working with what you have.
