Toggling Sample and holds

Post by raulsworldofsynths » Wed Sep 05, 2012 7:54 pm

I was looking at this patch and I feel I'm missing something.

The /2 out from the clock divider goes to the top input of the a165, and the lower input of the A165 goes to the trigger in of the A148?
Is this kosher? Isn't that input to input?

:hmm:

Thanks for any help.

BTW the patch is off the Doepfer patch example page.

Looks like they're using the dual inputs as a mult.

You can connect almost as many inputs as you want with a mult, it's outputs which generally should not be multed together.

Ok. Just went back and checked the manual.
Sometimes it is just that.
"In practice, the original and inverted trigger signal are often both needed at the same time, so it’s possible to use these two inputs as a mini-multiple - using one of them to send the original trigger to another module."

I love this sound it's producing though. It's gotta be my favorite random-type sound to date.

Wow! After I read your post, I immediately patched this up using Scope Modular III for all the modulation sources routed to my Kraftzwerg oscillators via an ES-3. This is my first hybrid patch that I've posted. Thanks for sharing this! I can listen to it all night.

i decided to try my hand at a virtual patch. I spent way too much time in reaktor to no avail. Tryed my hand at the Nord Modular G2 demo and Bam! in 15 minutes. I even added a nice delay.Woo!
Go figure.

And quick patching when you're trying to check something out. Nord G2 = instant win! :goo:

Don't actually see the point of the A160 in there. All it's doing is dividing the initial clock by 2, why not just run the A145 LFO at 1/2 the speed? :despair:

I don't understand why the clock divider goes there either. Like you said you could run the clock at 1/2 speed.
Maybe to use with other modules?

:hmm:

I could see some possible cool variations running the second S/H and different division of the first.

Wakening up a thread from the kingdom of death…
Now I master the “Chaos Patch” on http://www.doepfer.de/a100_man/a100_patch.htm
Now I want to do the “Toggling Sample & Holds”. An easy patch. But I don’t really understand what the outcome should be.
No “Wow, cool” reaction.
Yep, I get the flip-flop effect. Hurray… Is that all?
(If I “chain” the S/H’s I get a short ASR but that wrong.)
I haven’t found an example that clearly shows what I can expect from this patch.
What can the Buchla 266 Source of Uncertainty do that this patch is supposed to emulate? :help:

I have made a little patch using the "Toggling Sample & Holds" patch - maybe?
https://freesound.org/people/gis_sweden/sounds/445101/
Does it sound right, or just random...?
I don't get it :help:
