"West Coast" voice with Intellijel modules

Post by intellijel » Fri Jan 18, 2013 4:34 pm

Here is our take on a "West Coast" voice using only Intellijel modules:

The Rubicon is the primary VCO with TZFM
A Dixie II is the modulator
Dixie square acts as sync source for Rubicon
Rubicon Saw acts as reversing sync source for Dixie
(two way sync patch)
The Double Saw out and Pulse from the Rubicon are fed to the two inputs of the Korgasmatron II. Using the xfade on the Korgo you get an ODD/EVEN control. Put both filters into HP to get a high harmonic output.
Feed Mix out of Korgo II to Azimuth (put in Xfade mode) and a Sine from the Rubicon to the other input. Now xfade those and the result from the L Out is a blend of LOW/HIGH (called "Order" on the Buchla 261e).
Feed output of the Azimuth II to input of the uFold II for Wavefolding.
A second Dixie is present as an extra assignable modulation source.
You can get AM by patching an FM source into the VCA inputs of the Azimuth II (should be multed to modulate both at same time).
FM Depth VCA (index) is built into the Rubicon. You can patch back to Dixie to modulate the source. You can use a Triatt as an attenuator for this two way modulation and as a morph control voltage source.

With this as a basis you can start tweaking parameter, re-patching and adding more modulation sources like a Quadra for envelopes or a Planar to morph between up to 4 sources (or route audio/cv to 4 destinations)

Nice! My Dixie and Rubicon should arrive tomorrow. Of course, I won't have the Korgo II yet. Or an Azimuth.

Very nice. I love the aesthetics of a full system from the same maker, and you certainly have enough variety to build it. I'd just add some envelopes to round it off.

:sb: :goo:  looks really cool!

will :intellijel: be offering these configurations as complete systems?

cheers

How bout a little video demo with the deluxe, maybe even record it direct?

It does look like a good voice. I'm pretty heavy in the intellijel department, but have no corgo, no rubicon and no azimuth...or planar yet, but a sweet video could change all that once the namm dust settles.

Very interesting, several of those modules are on my wish list.
I also vote for a demo, or a tutorial of either set up, and how this configuration gets one the "west coast sound"

I think either Intellijel or Make Noise need to make a noise module. You can get "noise" out of the ring mod out of the wogglebug, god permitting but some nice pink noise would be a treat.

this makes me think how awesome it would be to have each row of a single system dedicated to one company each. like a 12u system where each row could be Intellijel, Makenoise, Doepfer, and Malekko-Wiard (griffon designs). or Pittsburgh. or SynthTech. how cool would that look!

the new Intellijel panels and knobs are so elegant when grouped together by the way. makes me want to build a completely new and separate Intellijel-only portable case. if only I had the dough.

STG has the .SHN which offers pink noise.

Sorry, but John Chowning doesn't understand a relatively basic FM patch ???

The Noisering has a straight up white noise output. You can feed it into the boogie 6 db/oct output for pink-ish noise (pink is actually 3 db/oct lowpass filtered noise). But of course, a 4hp noise source with a "color" knob (like the one on the Nord G2) and a sample-and-hold circuit would be better.

This was pretty much my idea when I started planning my Euro system a couple years ago. Back then there weren't as many Intellijel modules and most of them were utilities, but I wanted two rows of Malekko/Wiard (which I got), and then one row of Tip Top and one row of Harvestman.

I'm currently building my third row, which will have assorted flavors and specific functionality. But I'm still open to the idea of adding (in the future) rows of the same maker. With this thread, Intellijel is definitely now one of the makers under consideration.

 :goo:  aaarrrgghhhhh I CAN'T TAKE IT anymore! this west coast system looks too cool. I'm going to buy a Rubicon. DYING to try the TZ and sub-octave outputs and sigmoid and also patch it with my E350. I bet the crazy waveforms from the E350 with the Rubicon will result in utter meltdown. I bet the Noisering and Rubicon will be a good match too.

do all intellijel modules work perfectly well together?

I know euro in general is a mixed bag, but how many companies purposely plan their modules for perfect integration in a single manufacturer instrument that may not have been planned when the companies started?

l mean, clearly they are backtracking and improving on earlier designs... is this part of preparation for a complete perfectly interlinked Intellijel system?

Now that would be one sexy system! I hope you're right.
