Adding a VU to a pedal?

Post by tragedybysyntax » Thu Mar 20, 2008 10:02 pm

So... I've got this idea to add a vu to a diy pedal kit i'm building for fun.... Wondering if anybody had any tips? I'm powering this off a 9v wall plugin and I thought maybe I could just somehow run it inline with the signal input to the pedal.

IDeas? thanks!

I'm no expert in the subject, but one consideration at least is whether you use a "real" VU meter with all the electronics required (they're usually quite expensive) or if you have a cheap DC meter for which you'll probably need bit of extra electronics for buffering the signal and so on.

Check out http://www.jlmaudio.com/VU%20Buffer.htm for example, there's also a nice article linked there that the kit is based on - it may be of help.
