Pics of me getting a little face time with Ichabod before being delivered to Billy Corgan.

Cool! hyper Too bad Ichabod couldn't be displayed at the PNW Synth Gathering on the 31st! Mr. Corgan would be most welcome too! thumbs up
wetterberg
hehe, it's like patching with the modular planner lol
mmm
Only it's better than the planner. It's real time smile

John- I agree, that would have been FUN!!! Oh well. I'll just bring the old stuff :(
Suburban Bather
Massive! Looks like a super fun system.

I want one of those FOH shirts.
BananaPlug
Looks like it has big orange heating elements to keep you warm.

Those are for roasting pumpkin seeds!
mmm
MMM toasty!

Good thing the "old stuff" rocks too! 8_)

Cant exactly put my finger on why, but I HATE THIS SYNTHESIZER!

I think it has to do with the name, which brings immediate comparison to TONTO. I just dont see it as being anything special in any way, and the amount of gushing on AH and matrix about it make me want to puke.

It is just big and does not seem to me that it would have any particular character. The FIST OF GOD was likely not delivered at one time, and probably grew over time and earned its pretentious and awesome name. ICHABOD however is just a bunch of the same modules over and over again, dropped on a rock stars doorstep to go with his synthi 100 and EMUs and god knows what else.

Not jealous, have more than I need and will make more.
syncretism
That's a lot of modules stuffed into a small space, I like the MMM demos I've heard. It'd certainly be cool to have more eclectic modules, but I imagine those will come.

In the end, though, I don't really care about Billy Corgan or his instruments. I see this as a triumph for George Mattson, and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Maybe you need another hobby on the side. Luckily my loving synthesizers doesn't give me enough spare time to go around hating other's synths.
Kendall Station
way to go larry congrats!

whether you like the synth or not you have to admit that it'd be a hoot patching around with that thing.
mmm
Love it or hate it. All that matters is that the customers receive what he/she wanted. They pay for it, they call the shots.

Besides, it kept me busy for five months and I had a ball building it. I love the challenge of doing something new and different.

I had even a better time testing it for two months before delivery. nanners

I personally can't think of a synthesizer that I hate. They're all unique and each provides a different perspective to experiment with. I started to pick up some euro format modules for me just for that reason.
Kendall Station
yes its hard for a synth lover to say they *hate* a properly built and designed synthesizer, this is a really nice project! MattsonMINI my-ass! smile

This, to me, is the nice thing about the Icabod. It's awesome to see a guy like George Mattson get a huge sale like this. There's a video about of him demoing the MM where he says in a year he had one customer . . .

Sometimes I see a huge modular system and I think, "Man, I'd never use five percent of that much modular!" but the flip side is the support it gives the small businesses that keep us supplied with our electronic happiness. Guinness ftw!
mmm
LOL

The idea was to put a modular in a small package to make it easy to move around.

I didn't know people were going to populate wall-size cases hmmm.....

For some reason, that doesn't seem to bother me much.
Reese P. Dubin
Hahahah yeh well, I actually have too many hobbies on all sides that make me wish I could quit my job to have time for them all.

I realize that I should just shut up now, and keep those opinions to myself. While I am sure the thing sounds great and could provide anyone with a lifetime of kicks, it still buggs the shit out of me for some reason. I have been looking at synth porn for the last 15 years, and this is the only single time I have ever been short of WOW COOL. It just reminds me a bit of naming babies before they are born...oh man thats probably a whole new can of worms.

Oh well, I am not losing any sleep over it, and dont wanna give anyone that impression...just a Larry David moment for me!

BTW Neandrewthal, YOUR synth on the other hand should is the classiest most attractive 5U system I have ever seen. Folks should be taking some cues from you and be breaking out of the Moog mold.

You've not touched, nor played it. So you wouldn't know if it had any character or not. Yes it's big, but it's not impossibly big like Tonto, or any other huge full wall modular systems. Do you hate Keith Emerson's Moog? That thing could float away in all the gushiness it's received. And that system, for all practical purposes is larger than this one.

All of the MMM synths have their own character, they're based on circuits that are no longer in use. So they have their own sound. Plus the fact that IS a MODULAR synth, and can be interfaced with OTHER modulars.

I certainly wish i could add an MMM to my get up!
Suburban Bather
Man, just think about how crazy in depth you can get with FM on that monster. All of those VCOs, VCA's, and mixers screaming goo yo
JohnLRice
I think the MMM can sound big and rich IMHO, don't let your eyes fool you! thumbs up

Reese P. Dubin
Demos sound real good, very Wendy Carlosy!

Emerson's Moog gained its legendary status over a good long time period, including blowing all kinds of stoned kid's minds in person with sparks shooting out of it. I guess I miss that old world organic approach to things becoming mythical with time. Ichabod just kind of landed in a bazillion matrix posts, which made me see it as a Beniffer rather than the Katherine Hepburn it may actually be.

For the record I could not stand some people at first, who eventually became some of my best friends.
mmm
Reese,

You have every right to not like it and express that opinion.

Lord help us if everybody thought the same way.

I understand about the hype issue. I was madly in love with Farrah Fawcett when she was small time. Once the hype started, I lost interest.

But, Matrix talked me into going back into manufacturing since I was out of work...again, with potential employers giving me the "you're over qualified" BS. So, he's just "rootin' " for me. Sorry it bothers you.

I do have some more "not-so-common-ish" modules up my sleeve but, I have to get the basics covered first.

As far as the name. Ichabod was my choice. Since it was orange and black, it reminded me of halloween and Icabod Crane popped into my head. He wanted to name it, he liked my suggestion and we didn't know what sex it was going to be before it was built, either. 8_)

Precisely!

I am very happy for George, and hope it is positive for your future business. If Ichabod and I met, I would likely give it some dirty looks, putter around for a bit kicking the dirt and then go over and patch it, and probably have a blast.

Then I would break out my banana bible and proselytize for a conversion!
