[New Release!!!!] TrAniModule! 8HP Class A Amp/Spkr |
br>JRock |
br>Behold the TrAniModule!!!!
(That's right, say it out loud )
A 1 Watt, Class A Transistor Amplifier
In an 8HP, 29mm deep Package
For a Crazy Affordable price.
With a Line Input to jack your iPoop or your Walkman up to synth levels.
What's that?
You want to process your piddly little Line Level signal before you send it roaring out the belly of this little beast?
The Line out is normalled to the Mixer, so just plug in and it'll rip your signal away from the maws of this monster.
If you're looking for high fidelity
You better just slink back in to your studio with your Grandaddy's precious pretty monitors...
The speaker is about the size of my Big Toe!
But if you want portability and a warm sound that will drive when you crank it all the way, without knocking your granny off her chamber pot, We got'em both! AniModule has been working hard to help you achieve your Brown Note!
Really, haven't you ever wanted to pull your skiff out to the deck so you can contemplate life's inner intricacies and breathe the fresh air while you wind down your day?
But then you think twice cause your wife *cough* (we know you live in your parents basement) will think you're a kook while you're dragging your amplifier and cables through the house.
Now you can make that a reality. One outlet, one skiff, and you're communing with nature.
AniModule is helping to make your dreams come true.
The Mix out is just a nice clean, buffered mix of your 2 Attenuatable Inputs and the Line Input.
The Speaker Out is normalled to the speaker in case you want to drive a bigger cab, or plug your pretty little headphones in, or capture the tone after the amplifier. If you plug in, the speaker cuts out, but the master will still control the volume. Handy for live performance.
and really, if you want a nice clean sound, just dial back the levels a little bit!!!
Alright, that's enough Shtick...
Here it is!!!!
The AniModule TrAniModule!!!!!!!
Mention you saw it on Muff's and I will donate %10 of the sale to this awesome website! br> br> |

That and the hilarious sales pitch make this a winner! br> br> |

br>Brilliant! If the speaker sounds remotely decent, this will be great when I want to bring my modular over to a friend's house and jam with a cellist. br> br> |

Thanks.
It's really convenient to have a little speaker in your cabinet.
All of my setups have a little amp so I can bring my rig out on to my truck tailgate in 1 - 2 trips. It's great for troubleshooting too, even when you're hooked up to a monitor in the studio.
Once you add an amp and different sized cables and a power strip it gets to be more hassle than "Oh, I think I'll go outside and jam for a little. It's a lovely day."
You have to get dug in a bit.
It is a decent sounding little speaker. I tried a bunch out and this was my favorite.
It's certainly no bass heavy kicker, but for what it is (a 40mm x 28mm - 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" speaker), it sounds pretty nice.
And like my spiel says, you can get a reasonably clean tone out of it if you just dial the master back a fifth of a turn. br> br> |

br>I literally noticed this one popping up in ModularGrid minutes after it was added. Great idea (at least, the idea isn't completely original but nobody else seems to be doing it in euro... whilst we all love a speaker in the Synthi and 2600, right?) and the feature set seems very thought out.
Just not that sold on the facepanel design... br> br> |

It will be available for sale earlyish next week.

You couldn't ask for a nicer day to have an excuse to be outside.
They're pretty kooked but I think it'll give you a basic idear of what's going on.
Now I just have to upload them
I'll post'em up here as soon as Youtube swallows them up. br> br> |

Wow, I went to the Library and it uploaded in 15 minutes?!
It takes like 15 hours on my connect.
Here's a rough and ready/quick and dirty demo.
I'd like to get some more up, but let's start with one

I was just thinking about something like this a couple days ago.
A kind of battery and speaker module for some riverside EURO furn ... it looks the second one quickly became reality br> br> |

br>JRock |
br>Thanks
That could work if you can find lamppost with an outlet. All you need is one outlet 8_)
No lugging your amp around with you or a separate battery powered speaker and cables. Just plug in and patch away

Why am I uncool? And I have to say that the name isn't particularly funny. If someone were to come out with a "Voltage Controlled OsciNigger," would it just be hilarious joke?

:yay: |
I understand what the "joke" is supposed to be, it's just highly insensitive (as well as just not funny or clever). "Tranny" is a derisive slur used against trans* individuals, who already have a hard enough time in our society (1 in 12 trans* people will be straight up murdered, and "tranny" is probably one of the last words they hear before they're killed).
I'm sure no harm was meant by it, just letting you know that it's pretty uncool. br> br> |

Well, it sure sounded like the joke was that it sounded similar to "tranny," especially since you put that "that's right, say it out loud " bit at the beginning of the thread.
JRock wrote: | Love to hear it if you have a cooler suggestion |
Haha, I don't... Actually, I've always had a miserable time trying to come up with cool names! Half of the tracks that I've made are just random space-themed words br> br> |

Me too! AnVilope? What is that? It's a great little module, but the name, c'mon!
Came up with a decent name for the TrAniModule and got back to work on the important stuff
Quote: | the real joke is this: "Estimated price: $129.99" ;-) i have a few high end amps that cost 20$ but of course they dont include a chinese toy speaker. im probably the only one who thinks this is another overpriced eurohype module but there you go ;-) |
Ouchy! :(
Those $20 amplifiers are probably being mass produced in a factory somewhere.
This module has ~ $20 worth of Components in it alone.
That's not including the Front Panel, which is milled in shop and screen printed by hand OR the assembly time (assembled and handwired in shop).
The idea is that it liberates you from dragging around an auxiliary amp/speaker. Don't feel like going in to the studio and turning on your whole rig? pull your cabinet out to the couch and have a little noodle while you're watching the gong show.
Want to have a little jam on the deck while you're drinking your frappuccinotini and watching the sunset but don't feel like hauling out your amp and powerstrip? TrAniModule makes it easy.
Even if you're at your studio and hooked up to your monitors it won't just sit like a lump taking up unused space in your cabinet. There is a Mixer, a Line Input/Output (to boost your line signals to Modular levels) and can be used as a transistor distortion.
the TrAniModule a handy toolkit in an 8HP space for a VERY reasonable price.
if anything it's underrated. Most people that get it end up wanting more than 1 br> br> |

br>Is "tranny" really as bad as "nigger"? I didn´t know that, but I don´t live in the US.. And would it be possible to name it otherwise when it is sort of begging for the transvestite-transistor association AND it is made by AniModulte? I mean, is "transvestite" also a bad word and is it bad to give something like a Eurorack module the persona of a Trans gender person? (What is the correct non-offending term?) I don´t think Transvestimodule, Trans-AniModule, Transimodule or TransistorAnimodule works as well as TrAniModule...
I have never been teased or harrassed because of my sexual preferences, being born in the wrong body, or the colour of my skin or my religion so I would not know how people that have felt these things feel, but... c´mon! Do we have to be political correct all the time? I kinda hope someone makes a module called "The pale fat Viking with 1st world problems" with a picture of me on it so I can use that as my argument next time there is a debate like this.
Also I wish I knew a Transvestite (hope it is ok to use that word?) that I could ask what he or she felt about a eurorack module being called TrAniModule, because I think the name of the module together with the artwork and the speaker is cool as hell and I really want one! br> br> |

br> Slomen wrote: | Is "tranny" really as bad as "nigger"? |
I don't think we can really quantify something like that. It's not some sort of oppression olympics where we try to decide who has it "worse..." I simply used that comparison because it's similar: it's an epithet used to denigrate a historically oppressed group of people.
Slomen wrote: | And would it be possible to name it otherwise when it is sort of begging for the transvestite-transistor association AND it is made by AniModulte? |
I personally don't think any joke is "begging to be made," especially when that joke is harmful. Using slurs to target and isolate people is a big part of how oppression is perpetuated (in fact, it's so effective that the US military employs it as a means to desensitize their own troops toward killing enemy troops - if you have a nasty word that you use to indicate that someone is "other," it's much harder to see them as a human being and much easier to justify killing them). Trans* individuals are already subjected a quite a lot of oppression and rejection - almost half of them attempt suicide at some point in their lives, and as I said before, one in twelve is murdered.
Slomen wrote: | I mean, is "transvestite" also a bad word and is it bad to give something like a Eurorack module the persona of a Trans gender person? (What is the correct non-offending term?) "Transvestite" means that someone likes to dress up in the clothes of another sex and has nothing to do with identity. People who identify as another gender or sex but have made no physical changes to their bodies (such as hormone therapy or sex reassignment surgery) are "transgender," reflecting the fact that their biological sex has not changed, just their gender. Those who have made physical alterations to their bodies are "transsexual." A good way to encompass both groups is to just say "trans" or "trans*."
And sure, the name might "work well," but again, I don't think a funny module name is worth using epithets used to hurt trans* people. I'm sure the maker of the module is a smart guy and can come up with all sorts of hilarious names that aren't harmful.
Slomen wrote: | I have never been teased or harrassed because of my sexual preferences, being born in the wrong body, or the colour of my skin or my religion so I would not know how people that have felt these things feel, but... c´mon! It's not about being "politically correct," it's about not perpetuating oppression by not engaging in usage of slurs. I know that it can be a chore to watch what you say, but I really believe it's important to do if we want to advance as a society. Like you said, you've never experienced harassment based on your sex, gender, race, etc (neither have I, and as a cis white man in the United States, I probably won't), so it's very difficult to really understand what they have to go through every day.
Slomen wrote: | Also I wish I knew a Transvestite (hope it is ok to use that word?) that I could ask what he or she felt about a eurorack module being called TrAniModule, because I think the name of the module together with the artwork and the speaker is cool as hell and I really want one! |
I have a few trans* friends and none of them would be okay with me using a term like that, let alone an entire product named after it. I'm sure there are trans* people out there who wouldn't care, but I think it would be better to just think of another name for the module and avoid it altogether.
That being said, it does look like a fun module! I bet it would be really neat to put into one of those Erthenvar Lunch Boxes and go wiggle at the park and weird out passers-by with your strange bleeps and bloops br> br> |

that's how it came to be!!
all my cabinets had little speaker modules in them cause I like to pull my modular outside on nice days and set it up on the tailgate of my truck (I live in a tiny apartment in the center of town so that's what constitutes a deck or a patio for me )
Everytime i went to a synth meet the other wigglers liked the speaker module in my cabinet, so I decided I should make a module for euro rack when it came time to add one to my eurorack cabinet.
I tried a BUNCH of different speakers and about 5 different amplifier configurations. In the end the combo that sounded the best was the Class A transistor amplifier with this particular speaker...
hence, the TrAniModule was born! br> br> |

I agree with this, but the creator of the module already explained the logic behind the name, and it is not a tongue in cheek joke name. It's clearly based off the word transistor. He is not making a joke, and if you take it as a joke then you have simply misunderstood, because the two words sound similar. The same problem could arise from a manufacturer using non english words to name their module.
Individuals shouldn't joke with, and downplay words that are used to oppress groups of people, but that is not what has happened in this situation. br> br> |

br>Jesse, I've always respected Animodule's DIY build ethics and fun modules, but I think the humor of this one is a bit of a miss. The lips are a clear nod to Dr Frank-N_Furter no? This is most likely because you've never associated the word "tranny" with a hateful slur used against you. It's what we call "privilege:" the notion that there are experiences that you don't have to go through because of who you are. Trans* people aren't afforded the ability to shrug off the word tranny by telling themselves it's "just an electronics term." For many of them, it's a word that has been used by hateful individuals specifically to target them based on their sex and gender. To someone who has never questioned their sex, it seems odd to think of the term that way; to someone who feels that they've been born in the wrong body, it's a hurtful reminder that society does not welcome them. I think it's totally understandable that some people think of the slur rather than the electronics "term." br> br> |

br>Bumping this thread. I recently purchased one of these from perfect circuit. This thing is in my second case and is very fun It can give a relatively clean signal but will also clip the hell when the signal is turned way up. This is great to have around particularly if you have a lunchbox style travel kit.
