help with VCNoiz

Post by Sony Crocket » Sat Oct 19, 2013 7:27 am

Hi!

I finished building the vcnoiz but I get no sound on it. IC6 (TL074) gets hot.

I replaced it with a new one, but no results.

Checked all resistors and caps.

Help please!!

Thanks.

Hiya!

Sounds like you have a short somewhere or a reversed IC installed. The TL074 getting hot is most likely a product of the problem and is probably not the cause of it, so, I would inspect elsewhere on the PCB for issues. Look for reversed IC sockets, reversed power connections or anything else amiss.

Here's my basic troubleshooting page with some tips. Good luck!

Got it!!

It works flawlessly now!

I can now start with the neinohnein build. Really nice modules.

Thanks for your support.

also curious, mine is also dead (no sound at all), and I've also got IC6/TL074 who's getting hot !!! Can't find any shortcuts but I saw with a tester that the pin 3 & 5 are connected, is it normal?

and I bet it's normal that R3 is connected to pin6 (they are so close)?

thanks

A common problem is to miss the fact that you need to normalize the clock output to the input via a switching jack, or switch, or whatever :)

Besides that, it's a fairly simple build so as long as you wired the jacks and controls carefully, you should have some audible LFSR noise when you turn the pitch control up!

There's probably a bridged or missed solder joint somewhere, or a backwards IC...it's easy to do, I make mistakes like that more than I care to admit :hihi:
