smile After 3+ years on the 808-MIDIBOX balls up this is very welcome

This seems like a great alternative to the MB808 that will probably never happen.

clap sounds muted?

Nice price. I'm supposed to be saving money and have had to put off the cr0b0x as I couldn't justify both that and the TTSH, but I can't say no to this! SlayerBadger! SlayerBadger! SlayerBadger!

what is cr0b0x cr78?
Dude163
wow, just wow

this sounds and even looks fantastic , Roland screws up and doesnt meet the demand for a product.

I was looking at the MIA MB808 but this is a refreshing take on it and seems to be everything you need except the case!
Luka
looks promising

No it is this https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=83363 Oldcrow's amazing but very expensive Oberheim OBX clone.

On the subject of the CR-78, I have been working on a clone of that on and off for about the last year. I have done a bit of breadboarding and have a schematic finished in Kicad, but I'll probably never get around to actually building one as the various rather large inductors used in several of the voices appear to be unobtainable these days.

THIS!

Anyone have a price on the kit and case?

Perhaps it's just me, but the BD sounds a bit wimpy and frankly, the clap is crap. Maybe it has to do with the BA662 substitution. The MB808 clap used a CA3080 and sounds fine.

Otherwise, not a bad attempt.

[Edited out false alarm about the similarities to the MB808 firmware after seeing that it's not a PIC-based project]
MindStasis
Yes, but where is the MB808?
sneak-thief
The MB808 is obviously going nowhere. Such a shame! The first two batches by Moogah were run very professionally.

However, I'm really curious if this firmware was developed from scratch. Judging by the PCB, I'm 90% sure it's a pic18f (just like the MB808) and the LED behaviour is 100% identical the the MB808 in the playback and mute modes. All of the features of the Yocto could have easily been tweaked from the Midibox firmware.

I wondered the same thing, but looking at the build docs shows that it is ATMEGA1284-P based.

A-ha, I see now. Good call. The oscillator position and shift-register use is eerily similar to the pic18f4620 from the MB808. False alarm!

Kind of pricey for not coming with a case, but still pretty neat.

379€ + 50€ for a case is not pricey for 1500 components and a case!

4 years ago my MB808 cost about 400€ - including the pcb and rare parts kit from Moogah, a big-ass order from Mouser, a Hammond case and a custom cut acrylic front panel. I also got the buttons for ridiculously cheap from some US electronic retailer; those ITT Cannon switches and variants can get very expensive.
