New Cwejman modules - BLD and MMF-6

Post by hpsounds » Sat Nov 21, 2009 12:51 am

Wowa was working hard !

Image

The BLD has all components and functions necessary for generating bass lead and drum sounds with focus on bass drum sounds. It can be trigged by a push button or by an external signal (any shape). The pitch, cutoff frequency, transient times and amplitude are also voltage controllable by external signals. The BLD contain main sound generator (OSCILLATOR) and noise generator and modifiers such as low pass filter, amplifier and two transient (contour) generators.

Image

The MMF-6 is a multi mode filter with six outputs, first three from the left; "clean" low pass, band pass and high pass. Low- band- and high pass to the right are processed by three separate (for every output) saturation circuits with two modes; soft and hard.Additionally, the filter core has so called "symmetry" control for the resonance and cutoff frequency. It is possible to control cutoff so positive and negative going signals has different cutoff frequencies, from a subtle "edge" to very dramatical character of the audio signal (including frequency division effect). Now it's possible to imitate the famous Moog filter (it can not replace it, of course), OTA based filters and others. All this by modulating symmetry by one of outputs (pre-patched to "clean" low pass output) or an external signal. Now it is possible to mix clean and saturated audio signals in any combination.

The MMF-6 looks like just the upgrades the MMF-5 could have used, but still a different animal. Love the multiple outputs! :yay:

Has anyone else found their Cwejman oscs and filters to have lower output levels than other Euro? I really tried to keep my MMF-1 and Osc-6 but both had to be boosted on output with amp modules and space freeing killed them. I like the new filter idea but worry the same. It seems like he's running at Buchla level. All his mixers, Lfo's and VCA's are tops though.

Here's another new one that I will want for sure:

That BLD is very interesting, it would save me from using 3 or 4 of my other favorite modules.

Wonder what the price will be? Probably about $600.00 or so.

Edit --> To say that Random Generator looks sweet as well. Man, it is really getting hard to keep up with all this new stuff.

maan.
If I only had money in the moment... :omg:
to me, the BLD looks very useful:
When patching around I often come to this point I miss one "further" whole system-
just because cables and modules get few and too often the "bass-lead" I´m producing
would need a better focus.
to start off with one BLD in parallel would keep my work and abilities much more sorted.
(wondering how wicked it would sound with a qmmg in connection!)

not sure how i feel about the whole yellow scheme in a euro chassis, but that BLD looks like it would be insanely useful along side a mfb SEQ02

I'd hit it.

He's been a busy boy for sure! I'm not sure that another voice module from Cwejman will be a big seller though. My ideal Cwejman voice module is the S1!

I hope that he is just color-coding 'prototypes' or 'in development' units yellow. I like the Cwejman green.

man i really hope he releases them in that cream colour. they look so fucking sweet..

I hope you guys noticed the sound clips for BLD.
http://www.cwejman.net/bld.htm
some pretty awesome stuff.
i just wish he explained the patches a bit more. some sound like rudimentary drums but it also sounds like you can get some real sequences going.
http://www.cwejman.net/bd-6.mp3 (see middle section of clip)

what i really want to know is if a trigger will suffice or if you need a CV sequencer to create those sounds...
(and i'm probably gonna get the answer i don't want..)

retrospective thought:
Ahhh FUUUCK!!! :nana: :nana: i'm really excited. i mean REALLY. REALLY. AGH :cat:

but I just know he's gonna chop our dicks off with that price tag.

My VCO-2RM and VO-6 are -5V...+5V as expected. Also MMF-1 gives unity gain in LPF mode, no resonance and filter open. Self-resonance varies from 5V peak to peak to 15V peak to peak depending on filter mode and Spacing setting. In "normal"l use it is not as hot as Frequensteiner, but that is not a problem for me.

man...I´m done... :picard:

I was claiming that at last I finished my modular plan...just decide to keep the last modules no matter what other things could be good or better

this is not fair...

the BLD covers a lot of what I want, including what the VM-1 lacks: envelope outputs! now you can use them with the rest of your system

From the Cwejman news page:
2009-11

Three new modules will be released very soon; a multi mode filter MMF-6. a random generator RG-6 and a bass/ drum module BLD. The new front panel colour is pearl-white...not yellow!
I really liked the old color (was something different in Euroland).

If it is going to be like Modcan B, I would like all my modules to be pearl-white.

if Mr Cwejman reads this thread, could he tell us a bit more about some of the sound samples provided with the BLD ?

i'd really like to know what kind of patch is used to sequence the module.

Also, if he's reading this, it says "Treshold" on the RG instead of "Threshold".

Other than that, absolutely drool-worthy

Maybe since they seem less middle of the road technical precise synthesis philosophy than the green grey modules. Precision randomness... :hmm:
Almost a little more "prepatched" than other Cwejmans? I'm curious how the pair would sound as a random bass drum generator. Drummer with a twitchy foot?
